I use the drum dial and highly recommend it. You will still need to tweak the final tuning by ear, but it helps a lot to repeat a setup when changing heads, weather changes etc.

The torque keys are not a solution. The torques on my different lugs to achieve the right tuning varies dramatically.
What you got back home, little sister, to play your fuzzy warbles on? I bet you got, say, pitiful, portable picnic players. Come with uncle and hear all proper! Hear angels' trumpets and devils' trombones. You are invited!

well, the tension watch type of products will make it really easy to tune every lug to somewhere around the same spot, but not dead on. you still have to tune by hand to get the drum really in tune.

just remember not to get frustrated and settle for a lug that sounds off, but only a little bit, just because you dont feel like tweaking it. its sometimes easier to hear the tone of each lug more consistenly by using something like the eraser of a pencil. when youre tuning, count the number of turns that you move each lug, so you can make the same adjustment all the way around.

i think u should just tune them buy ear, cause wat happens if u got to change a head a half hour before a gig and ur tuning watch breaks, so if u do get one try tuning ur heads by ear the see how close u were wit the watch, it will only help u get better at tuning

Learning to tune with your ears is much better in the longrun. Plus, using our ears doesn't set you back $70.

Then you don't need a Drum Dial/Tension Watch. All they do is help speed up the process.
The only things that will keep your drums "perfectly in tune" are this

    and this.

Example: I started in 7th grade with a Tama Swingstar. In 9th grade I bought a great Yamaha Recording Custom 16" tom for my left side. THAT'S when I realized that I'm never going to get great sounds from drums that aren't designed for it. If I'm going to stick with this I'd better learn just what good drums sound like.

Oh, and my Swingstar always sounded good (or at least as good as it could) because I was challenged to match the left tom.

Nothing against the tuning aids, but you gain few usable skills from them... especially on a gig in the middle of a set.

"Stall for me while I pull my second tom off and tune it with my gizmo... which I'm trying to find... just keep stalling!!"
hey... can you give your drums tension.... i wanna know the tension for the snare and bass drum...
