Exclamation new mapex, need advice on skins

    hey,
i just got a brand new maple 7 piece.
as a broke 16 year old musician, i've been playing pearl exports up until now, and have never gotten to own or even play an all maple kit
can i have a couple names of skins that would sound the best on this kit? it's a mapex meridian maple 7 piece. i just don't want to buy 7 new skins only to find out that my drums could sound better with a different skin.

    thanks a lot

What kind of sound do you prefer--open, resonant tones or focused, deeper tones? Also, do you have a brand preference?

usually a little more focused and deep
and i usually play remos, but brand isn't that important to me
i did, however, stick with remo for the powersonic bass drum head, that's what i previously had and it sounds great now. but the toms don't have to be the same brand or anything

and thanks a lot by the way

You might want to try Remo Emperors, or if you want an even deeper sound, go with Remo Pinstripes. Both are 2-ply, but the pinstripes are heavier. The Emperors are not quite as deep, but they will be more resonant. It just depends on what tone you like better. Both are good quality heads, though.

    I agree with bytor.

    Either will work great.

what about suedes? i heard theyre good for deeper sounds.
except i heard it from a 16 year old who not only has a birch kit, but doesn't even play the suede heads

I haven't tried the Suedes, but according to Remo's website, their sound is in between clear and coated heads. If you're wanting deep tones, you'll probably want to just go with pinstripes, which are available coated or clear but not Suede.

hey man! if you arent specific to a brand- i played on remo pinstripes for about 6 years i think, but i switched over to the evans ec2, theyve got a really warm and deep tonal quality. BUT remo pinstripes are great heads as well, just adding some options
